The Shetland is a small, fine boned
sheep from the Shetland Islands in northern Scotland. They have
short-tails naturally and they have evolved in relative isolation
in Shetland since the late 8th century. They produce high quality wool
- the finest of any British breed. To date 30 different
distinct colour markings have been found on these sheep. In 2002 the
RBST removed the Shetland sheep from its 'minority' list.
