In the middle ages mutton from
black welsh mountain’s was prized for its richness and
excellence. It’s wool was much sought after by merchants. The breed is
nowadays mostly found in small flocks but the rams are often
crossed with commercial ewe lambs as the lambs are small to be born
and quickly get up and suck. The breed usually lambs February - March
and produce lamb percentages
of around 175%.
