Court Farm Pontrilas
Court farm is run by
Richard and Joy James in the beautiful Herefordshire
countryside near the Welsh border country.
Farmed by the family for around a 100 years, Court farm is run
along traditional lines with both livestock and arable crops. In recent
years, we have joined various environmental schemes, meaning that we
have not farmed as intensively as in the past. Most of the
feed we give to the animals is grown on the farm with only supplementary
foodstuffs bought in.
Richard has been
breeding sheep and cattle for over 30 years mostly supplying Suffolk and Texel rams for
breeding with females used as replacements
and the rest sold through local markets and abattoirs. The buzz word in
the agriculture industry is diversification, with this in mind and with our
knowledge of the sheep industry we have diversified into traditional and rare breeds with the plan to supply
breeding sheep to small holders, hobby
farmers and commercial farmers alike. We are now able to supply
8 breeds of sheep (Texel, Hebridean, Black Welsh Mountain, Lleyn,
Suffolk, Badger Face, Kerry Hill, Shetland, Balwen Welsh Mountain) as well as Dexter cattle.
